Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. An hour covers one neighbourhood comfortably; two hours let the photographer move you between two places, which in Tokyo or Kyoto means two completely different backdrops. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot in Kanazawa: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour walk against a half day before you book.

January and February, when Kenroku-en is under snow and the pines wear their roped winter cones — the garden's most photographed state. Blossom follows in the first week of April. The teahouse streets of Higashi Chaya prefer flat afternoon light, and the city is wet: Kanazawa has more rainy days than almost anywhere in Japan, so a covered alternative is worth agreeing in advance.
