Momijidani Park
A maple valley behind the shrine, with a stream, small bridges and stone lanterns — deep red in the second half of November.
About Momijidani Park
Get directionsMomijidani, the maple valley, climbs behind Itsukushima Shrine along a stream at the foot of Mount Misen. Small vermilion bridges cross the water, stone lanterns stand among the trees, and in the second half of November the maples turn deep red.
Outside the autumn weeks it is a green, shaded valley, cool in summer and quiet compared with the shore. The path through it leads up to the ropeway for Mount Misen and the view over the Inland Sea.
In peak colour the valley gets crowded by late morning; early is best. Deer wander here too — keep food out of sight.
Best time to shoot
Early morning; the second half of November for colour
