About Onshi-Hakone Park

Get directions

Onshi-Hakone Park covers a small headland on the southern shore of Lake Ashi, once the grounds of an imperial villa. Paths climb through the trees to lookouts over the lake, and on clear days Mount Fuji rises beyond the far shore.

It is quieter than the shrine and the piers, with lawns and a lakeside viewing house that suit relaxed portraits. In autumn the trees turn, and in early summer the woods are deep green.

Fuji is shy: the mountain is most often clear in the colder months and early in the morning, and summer haze can hide it for days. Plan the session around the lake and treat the mountain as a bonus.

Tips

Check the Fuji forecast or a live webcam the evening before. If the mountain is hidden, the lake and the woods still carry the session.
