I’m Bernard, an American photographer and filmmaker who has called Kyoto home for more than 20 years. I began photographing professionally in 1996, and photography has been part of my life for three decades. My approach is natural, relaxed, and observant. I’m interested in more than simply taking a good portrait. I look for the atmosphere, the surroundings, the small interactions, and those unexpected moments that make your time in Japan uniquely yours. I photograph couples, proposals, families, individuals, kimono and pre-wedding sessions, as well as travel and lifestyle experiences. Kyoto is my home, but I also travel throughout Japan for photography and film work. Whether you are visiting Japan for the first time, marking a special occasion, or simply want beautiful photographs to remember your time here, I’ll create images that feel personal, natural, and lasting.
