Odori Park and the TV Tower
A long green boulevard through central Sapporo with the TV Tower at one end — lilacs in spring, beer gardens in summer, snow and lights in winter.
About Odori Park and the TV Tower
Get directionsOdori Park runs for more than a kilometre through the centre of Sapporo, a broad strip of lawns, flower beds and fountains with the city's TV Tower standing at its eastern end. It is the city's living room, and it changes completely through the year.
In late spring the lilacs flower, in summer the park fills with beer gardens, and in winter it hosts the snow festival's sculptures and then the illuminations, with the tower lit above. Looking down the park towards the tower gives a strong, symmetrical frame in any season.
It is a public park in the middle of the city: easy to reach, and crowded during the big events — around those, early mornings are the calm hours.
Best time to shoot
Blue hour, when the tower and the winter lights come on
Tips
Shoot down the length of the park with the tower at the end for symmetry. During the snow festival, go early in the morning to beat the crowds.
