Couples Photographer on Ishigaki
A couples session on Ishigaki is about colour and room — white sand, jade water and green hills straight behind the beach, and past Tamatorizaki the north of the island is nearly empty; the midday sun is hard, so most sessions run early or late.

About Ishigaki
Ishigaki is closer to Taiwan than to Tokyo, about three hours by direct flight from Haneda, and it photographs like nowhere else in Japan: white coral sand, water running from jade to deep blue, and green hills straight behind the beach. Kabira Bay on the north-west coast is the picture the island is known for — from the park above it, the islets and the glass-bottom boats sit on water that is brightest in high sun, and because swimming in the bay is not allowed, the shore stays quiet. Ten minutes away by ferry, Taketomi keeps a whole village of red-tiled roofs, coral-stone walls and white sand lanes. The north of the island is emptier, all the way out to the lighthouse at Hirakubozaki, and Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park was certified as Japan's first International Dark Sky Place. The rainy season comes in May and June and typhoons can arrive from July to October, so a spare day is worth more here than anywhere on the mainland.

Top Photo Spots on Ishigaki
The most photogenic locations for your Ishigaki photoshoot
Kabira Bay from Kabira Park
The view the island is known for — green islets on water in every shade from jade to deep blue, seen from the park on the slope above the bay.
Best time: Late morning to early afternoon in sunshine, ideally near high tide
Check the tide table and the cloud forecast together — high water in sunshine gives the colour the bay is known for. Swimming is not allowed here, so plan beach photos for another stop.
Taketomi village and Kondoi Beach
A whole village of red-tiled roofs, coral-stone walls and white sand lanes, ten minutes from Ishigaki by ferry, with a shallow turquoise beach on its west side.
Best time: Early morning before the day-trip ferries, and the hour before sunset at Nishi Pier
Keep to the lanes and off the walls — the houses are homes. Bicycles are the easy way between the village, Kondoi Beach and Nishi Pier, and check the last ferry back before you book an evening slot.
Hirakubozaki Lighthouse
A white lighthouse on the island's northern tip, with reef-coloured sea on both sides and grassy slopes running down to the cliffs.
Best time: Late afternoon, when the low sun comes across the grass
Plan it as a half day with a stop at Tamatorizaki on the way. Bring a layer against the wind, and leave before dark — the drive back is long and unlit.
Uganzaki Cape
Cliffs and a white lighthouse at the western end of the island, facing the open sea — Ishigaki's place for the sunset.
Best time: The hour before sunset and the twenty minutes after
Arrive early on a clear evening — the lookout fills up. Keep well back from the cliff edge, and look for the wild lilies on the slope in April.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a couples photoshoot in Japan?
Most sessions run between forty-five minutes and two hours. An hour covers one neighbourhood comfortably; two hours let the photographer move you between two places, which in Tokyo or Kyoto means two completely different backdrops. The photographer's packages on their profile say exactly what each length includes.
How much does a photoshoot on Ishigaki cost?
Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot on Ishigaki: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by how long the session runs and how many edited photos you receive, so compare a one-hour walk against a half day before you book.
When is the best time for a photoshoot on Ishigaki?
Spring and autumn are the easiest. From late March to April and from mid-October into November the sea is warm, the light is softer and the island is quieter than in August. The rainy season runs from about mid-May to late June, and typhoons can stop flights and ferries from July to October, so leave a spare day. Winter is mild but often grey and windy. For portraits, book the hour before sunset — it comes late here, because Ishigaki sits at the far western edge of Japan's single time zone.
